Meetings, Lectures, and Training

To determine if you should be paid for attending lectures, meetings, and training programs, consider the following:

  1. are you are required by your employer to attend?
  2. are you attending during your regular working hours?

If these conditions are met then those hours must be counted as hours worked and are subject to overtime law.

Exceptions

  • if your employer sets up an instruction course that may or may not pertain to you job and you voluntarily attend outside of your working hours
  • if you voluntarily attend an independent school, college, or trade school after your work hours
