Meetings, Lectures, and Training
To determine if you should be paid for attending lectures, meetings, and training programs, consider the following:
- are you are required by your employer to attend?
- are you attending during your regular working hours?
If these conditions are met then those hours must be counted as hours worked and are subject to overtime law.
Exceptions
- if your employer sets up an instruction course that may or may not pertain to you job and you voluntarily attend outside of your working hours
- if you voluntarily attend an independent school, college, or trade school after your work hours
